Ann Smith

Founder, CEO and Artistic Director

Through Ann Smith’s inspired leadership, vision and musical expertise, the North Texas Children’s Choir (1996) has grown to include 225 students representing 20 North Texas schools. With the addition of the Texas Youth Chorale (2013) and the Texas International Choral Festival (2018), the North Texas Metroplex Children’s Choirs have developed a reputation as high-level singers that perform in Dallas at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center and throughout the world.

Smith’s extraordinary skill, innovative teaching style and dedication to her students is evident in the performance repertoire. Choir members study and sing challenging works in a variety of languages by composers ranging from Bach to Dilworth. Recent choral projects include the annual Texas Youth Chorale Christmas Concert featuring the “Ceremony of Carols,” an extended work by Benjamin Britten.

In addition to her NTMCC activities, Smith has been a guest clinician and conductor locally throughout NorthTexas; regionally as the first guest conductor for the 2016 Sunflower Choral Youth Festival in Junction City, Kansas; and internationally in Sydney, Australia and throughout Europe. Under her direction, in 2003, the Denton High School Chorale was chosen by the Texas Music Educators to be an Honor Choir that performed at the TMEA convention in San Antonio. Also in 2003 the DHS Chorale performed for the U.S. Air Force at the Pentagon and with the Kansas State University Choir at Carnegie Hall.
