Katherine “Katie” Hoitt started singing in choirs at the age of 3 in her hometown of Mobile, Alabama. Her passion for choral music was ignited during her 9-year membership in Mobile’s Singing Children community choir, under the direction of her mother.
Katie earned Bachelor’s degree in K-12 Vocal Music Educationand and a Master’s degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Southern Mississippi. After leaving USM, Katie taught middle school choir in Memphis, Tennessee and Vicksburg, Mississippi. While in Vicksburg, she auditioned to become the Mississippi Boychoir Artistic Director in its 25th season. This very well established and prestigious choir awarded her the position.
After two years with the Boychoir and 4 years of public school teaching, she took a big leap to move to Texas, the land of great music and great teaching! She has just completed her first year in Mesquite ISD. Through her friendship with Ann Smith, she learned about a position that was opening up with the Texas Youth Chorale. Katie applied to join us, and is now the new Director of the Texas Children’s Chorale and the Assistant Director of the Texas Youth Chorale. Katie is excited to continue her community choir endeavors with Ann and the amazing singers of TCC and TYC.
